The Ultimate Guide to Tacos Near the Alamo

From me to you… because I’ve walked it, tasted it, and maybe ordered “just one more.” 🌮

When I created Sip Savor Stroll Tours, I didn’t just want people to see downtown San Antonio. I wanted them to taste it. And if you’re standing near the Alamo wondering where to get the good stuff, you’re in the right spot.

These are taco places I personally recommend. Not tourist traps. Not “it looked cute online.” Real-deal flavor within strolling distance of history.

🌮 Mengerita Tacos

If you’re steps from the Alamo and hunger hits fast, this is your move. It’s casual, affordable, and perfectly positioned.

I love sending guests here because it keeps the energy fun and easy. Grab tacos, then slip next door into the historic bar at the Menger for a margarita. History outside. Tequila inside. Balance.

What I order? Carne asada every time.

🌮 Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar

Right across from the Alamo and ideal when you want tacos with a little atmosphere.

I bring groups here when they want rooftop views and a margarita list that reads like a celebration. Their street tacos are solid, and the brisket version is a crowd-pleaser.

My tip? Go upstairs. Order the prickly pear margarita. Soak in the view. You’ve earned it.

🌮 La Margarita Restaurante & Oyster Bar

A short stroll or quick ride takes you to Historic Market Square, and this place has been doing it right for years.

When guests want that festive, colorful, unmistakably San Antonio vibe, this is where I point them. Carne guisada tacos here are comfort wrapped in flour tortilla.

And yes, the margaritas are strong. You’ve been warned.

🌮 Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia

An icon. Bright, lively, and open long hours.

If you ask me where to grab breakfast tacos before a tour, this is high on my list. Barbacoa tacos and fresh tortillas are a beautiful way to start the day. Add pan dulce and you’re officially in vacation mode.

What Makes San Antonio Tacos Different?

As someone who walks these streets weekly with guests, here’s what I’ve learned:

• Flour tortillas rule downtown
• Breakfast tacos are a serious business
• Puffy tacos are local royalty
• Salsa is not optional

San Antonio tacos aren’t fancy. They’re confident. They don’t need garnish theatrics. They just deliver.

Why I Pair Tacos with Walking

Food tastes better when you earn it. When you’ve heard a story about the Alamo, wandered past historic hotels, and then sit down with a taco and a margarita… it hits differently.

That’s exactly why I created Sip Savor Stroll Tours.

We don’t just eat.
We sip.
We savor.
We stroll.

And somewhere between bites and history, strangers start laughing like old friends.

If you’re planning a visit, or you’re local and want to see downtown through fresh eyes, come hungry. I’ll take care of the rest. 🌮🍹👟
